Forward Missed Calls to Your AI Agent

Keep your existing cell number. Your phone rings first — and if you don't pick up, your AI agent answers instead of your voicemail. This is free on every major US carrier and takes about a minute to set up.

Before you start

  1. Get your agent's number from your dashboard, Agents tab, on the agent card. Use the 10 digits only — no dashes, no spaces, no +1.
  2. This replaces your voicemail. Missed calls go to your agent instead of your voicemail — that's the point. Callers get a real conversation and you get a summary email and text.
  3. iPhone users: turn off Live Voicemail first (Settings, Apps, Phone, Live Voicemail off). If it's on, your iPhone can grab the call before your carrier hands it to your agent. Also, do NOT use Settings, Phone, Call Forwarding — that toggle sends every call to your agent and your phone never rings.
  4. Android users can use the dial codes below, or go to Phone app, three-dot menu, Settings, Calls, Call forwarding.

Quick reference

Replace NUMBER with your agent's phone number, found on the agent card in your dashboard.

AT&T**61*NUMBER*11*30###61#
T-Mobile**004*NUMBER###004#

Dial the code like a phone number and press Call. Wait for the confirmation tone before hanging up.

Your carrier, step by step

Test it — don't skip this

Forwarding can take up to a minute to activate. Then:

  1. From a different phone, call your cell number.
  2. Let it ring all the way through without answering.
  3. Your agent should pick up with your greeting.
  4. Check your email and texts — the summary should arrive within seconds and the lead should appear in your dashboard.

Then test the second condition: call your cell while you're already on another call. It should go to your agent immediately.

If your voicemail stops answering but your agent never picks up — stop and turn forwarding off right now.

This is the one failure that can cost you calls without you noticing. On some lines the carrier accepts the code and switches off your voicemail, but never completes the transfer. Callers get ringing that goes nowhere, and nothing reaches you or your agent.

Turn forwarding off immediately using your carrier's code, which restores your voicemail. Then call your carrier and ask them to enable conditional call forwarding — also called No Answer/Busy Transfer — on your line. Use those exact words: many reps will check that *72 works, confirm forwarding is active, and close the ticket. That's a different feature. It's free, it just isn't switched on for every line.

Verizon and AT&T: dial 611. T-Mobile: 1-800-937-8997. Prepaid accounts hit this more often than postpaid.

This is why the test above matters. Don't set forwarding and walk away without confirming a call actually lands.

Troubleshooting

  • "Your call cannot be completed as dialed" or a fast busy signal: Check the format — 10 digits, no dashes, no spaces, no +1. Then confirm your agent's number is live by calling it directly from another phone.
  • Calls still go to voicemail: On iPhone this is almost always Live Voicemail — turn it off. On Verizon, make sure you used *71 and not the iPhone Settings toggle.
  • The code errors out entirely: Some prepaid and low-cost plans don't include call forwarding by default. Call your carrier and ask them to enable conditional call forwarding on the line — it's free, it just isn't provisioned. AT&T 611, T-Mobile 1-800-937-8997, Verizon 611.
  • My phone doesn't ring at all, calls go straight to the agent: You set unconditional forwarding by mistake. Dial ##21# on AT&T or T-Mobile, or *73 on Verizon, then use the conditional code for your carrier.
  • Forwarding worked, then stopped: Carrier updates and eSIM changes can reset forwarding rules. Re-dial the code and re-test.
  • Texts aren't reaching my agent: Call forwarding moves voice calls only. SMS and MMS still come to your cell — that's expected.
  • The callback number in my summary is wrong: Your summaries should show the number the customer called from. If one shows your own cell number instead, email support@webleadaiagent.com with your carrier name and we'll fix the routing.
  • My voicemail stopped answering, but my agent never picks up either: The code registered — that's why voicemail went quiet — but your carrier isn't completing the transfer. Conditional forwarding isn't provisioned on your line. Turn forwarding off immediately to get your voicemail back, then call your carrier and ask them to enable conditional call forwarding / No Answer/Busy Transfer. See the warning in the testing section above.
  • My agent picks up too fast, or callers hang up before anyone answers: On AT&T and T-Mobile you control this with the number at the end of the code: **61*NUMBER*11*20# rings about 4 times before handing off, *11*30# about 6. On Verizon there's no ring-time control — the network decides, usually 4 to 6 rings.

Cost

No carrier charges a fee to turn call forwarding on. On unlimited plans there's no per-call cost. On a metered plan, the forwarded leg counts as an outgoing call against your minutes.
